PHOTIC,
featured 14 neighborhood painters, sculptors and designers whose works incorporate
a variety of photographic processes such as luminograms, cyanotypes, gum
bichromate, photocopying, light projections and heat photo transferring
as well as computer-manipulated and other photo-altering techniques. There
were also a number of site-specific installations utilizing light sensors
and slide and video projections.
The emphasis of this show was on works that are byproducts of visual
investigations involving photography rather than alternative photography.
Many of these artists don't consider themselves "photographers,"
consequently they offer some fresh directions, whether working with 19th
century processes or state-of-the- art computer technology. |
