| Packing a Punch is an exhibition about the power
of small work. Small paintings done in Medieval Europe were often intended
to be portable, hand-held devotional objects. Their viewers had a personal
experience with them. They were used rather like palm pilots are today.
They expanded your consciousness and increased the sphere of your influence.
Whereas big paintings, done on the ceiling of a church, were meant for a
shared group experience, the intent of small work is different. Some work
is more effective because of its small size -- contrary to some prevalent
thinking, about painting in particular. Hence, this show mainly consists
of painting. |
